Free Online Optical & Imaging Design Tools

Sunex Inc. is pleased to announce the release of its free optical and imaging online design tools – Optical Wizards.

 Optical Wizards provide engineers and designers the ability to select the best optical solution for their digital imaging application.

 These powerful online tools are organized into the following:

 · CCD/CMOS Lens Wizard – determines the most appropriate imaging lens to use based on sensor size and resolution.  The user only needs to input the imager array size and pixel dimensions.  This wizard calculates the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal field of view for each lens.

 · Imaging Solution Wizard – calculates the required effective focal length of a lens based on the user specified imaging geometry.  The user also has the option to search for a list of matching lenses.

 · Lens Element Design Wizard – allows users to specify a custom lens in several easy steps if an off-the-shelf product cannot be found.  This wizard allows the user to design plano-convex, symmetric-convex, plano-concave, symmetric-concave, achromatic doublets, best-form, and meniscus lenses.

 · Depth of Field Calculator – calculates the depth of field for a lens based on the focal length and F/# of a lens.

 · Search Lens by Imager Manufacturer Information Wizard – searches a database of sensor manufacturers by either the name of the manufacturer or by the sensor part number.  A search by manufacturer name results in a list of sensors manufactured by that company.  The user can select to view the sensor details and also has the option to search for a list of appropriate lenses.
