Precision IR-Cutoff Filter for CCD/CMOS Sensors

January 9, 2003

Carlsbad, CA

Sunex Inc. is pleased to announce the release of precision Infrared (IR) cutoff filters for CCD and CMOS sensors.  These IR cut-off filters are precision polished windows that are coated with a dielectric IR cut-off coating.  The cosmetic surface quality specification is better than 20/10 scratch/dig after coating.

The cosmetic surface quality specification can be a critical specification depending on the location of the Infrared cut-off filter.  If the filter is near the image sensor then defects in the coating or glass will be visible in the image.  Therefore, the requirements for filter surface imperfections need to be stringent.  Cosmetic surface quality better than 20/10 scratch/dig can be achieved on request.

Infrared cut-off filters are used with color CCD or CMOS imagers to produce true color images.  An IR cut-off filter blocks the transmission of the infrared while passing the visible spectrum.  Reflection, or dielectric coating, type filters are essentially short-pass interference filters that reflect infrared light with high efficiency.

Sunex offers a standard filter size of 15 x 15 mm, which is available off-the-shelf.  Other sizes are available.  Samples may be ordered by calling Sunex at 760-602-0988 or ordering online at www.optics-online.com.
